Museo di Storia Naturale del Mediterraneo
The Museo di Storia Naturale del Mediterraneo (the museum of the natural history of the Mediterranean) is housed in the Villa Henderson, an elegant building that dates back to the end of the 18th century. Over the years, the villa has been turned into an exhibition space, to which other spaces have been added, including the Sala del Mare (the sea room).
This large hall was built specifically for the purpose of displaying a common whale found in Piombino in 1990, and its arched shape deliberately echoes that of the cetacean.

A room for Freya Stark
Traveler, explorer, writer, geographer, diplomat, polyglot: Freya Stark has been a thousand woman in one. The challenge of telling such a complex personality inside the narrow boundaries of a room becomes a story in which is gathered an adventure of an entire life. Three chapters as a plot and path: the desk, her place of studies and writing down her memories; the threshold, a moment of crossing between the domestic life and the unknown dimension; the wardrobe, a sophisticated theatrical device which leads to the lands of his travels. The integration between real objects and technology involves the visitor in an interactive experience, aiming to a deeper comprehension. More

What emerges is the idea of the architectural profession as a "laboratory" and a tension between the two components of architecture: “archè” and “technè”, two poles that separated because of the dominion of the scientific paradigm, an approach supported by the work and figure of philosopher Emanuele S... Gallerie dell'Accademia
The monumental complex housing Gallerie dell’Accademia includes the church and monastery of Santa Maria della Carità and the same-named Scuola Grande. From Palladio and Selva to Carlo Scarpa, great architects have worked here ever since its foundation in the thirteenth century, up to the Napoleonic edict – when it was transformed into the Academy of Fine Arts with annexed Galleries - until the recent expansion of the exhibition spaces by the authorities. Once the Academy was moved, from 2005 to 2015 extensive, delicate work was carried out to increase the museum surface area from 5,000 to 12,000 square metres. Included in the restoration and retrofitting projects was the replacement of the doors and windows – with t... More
