Art’otel Cologne

The concept behind Art’otel combines “exceptional architecture and art-inspired interiors” to offer their guest a unique hotel experience. Needless to say, that all interior materials are put under strict and demanding design requirements. From the functional side, the task for the suspended ceilings in the conference and common areas was to conceal the necessary installations and provide high quality room acoustics. From the aesthetic point of view, the ceiling design had to be discreet and in line with the overall design concept. The optimal solution to the functional and aesthetic demands was found in Contur Globe. With its concealed grid and round perforations, Contur Globe creates a subtle and soft expression that blends in wit... More

Gamlegården

Vividly colorful and refreshingly different, the acoustic ceiling in Gamlegården, Sweden, catches the eye immediately as you enter the building. Gamlegården is a shopping center which was revamped in 2016, giving the center a new and modern identity. The richly colored acoustic ceiling is a painted Plaza from Knauf Danoline with 3.5 x 3.5 mm square perforations. The architect opted for a diverse composition of colors, exploring new and creative ways in which to design a ceiling. In addition to the intriguing variation of colors, certain parts of the ceiling are mounted in hangers, creating lower hanging, floating elements. This feature adds to the ceiling’s arbitrary and unorganized look. Like every other acoustic ceiling from K... More

Sky Lounge at Larsen Waterfront

Larsen Waterfront is a new 15-storey building in Aalborg comprising 254 youth apartments. Located right on the Limfjord, the view from the Sky Lounge on the 15th floor is something special. The Sky Lounge has been decorated by the two artists Leo and Nick Griffin – father and son, respectively. Their work of ark, called Vertical Water, revolves around the concept of water, drawing on inspiration from the Limfjord. Their beautiful paintings not only lift the room in terms of its aesthetical value, but also provide excellent acoustics as the ‘canvas’ is in fact perforated gypsum boards from Knauf Danoline. Before being fitted with acoustic materials, it was practically impossible to have a conversation in the room. The Sky Lounge at... More

HSB Turning Torso

HSB Turning Torso is Malmö, Sweden, began as a sculpture by the famous Santiago Calatrava. The design was inspired by the human body in a twisting motion. With its 190 metres, HSB Turning Torso is one of the tallest residential buildings in Europe. Knauf Danoline supplied a customised version of Corridor Micro ceiling for the spiral shaped corridors leading from the entrance hall to the car park. Regional Archives

When the new Archives départementales du Rhône (Regional Archives of Rhône) in Lyon was commissioned to be designed, the architects behind the project took a distinctively modern approach. The architects designed the foyers and public areas of the building to be as spacious as possible, whilst flooding them with natural light to brighten them up and create an airy environment. However, large open spaces such as these, always pose a big problem when it comes to acoustic comfort; and acoustic comfort was an absolute top priority in these areas, as visitors either required silence to read or study or optimal acoustics when the areas were to be used for lectures. It was important to find the right acoustic balance for the various purpos... More
