" Amidst the pandemic, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration opened its remarkable public space, the Chao Phraya Sky Park (CPSP). Left abandoned for almost 40 years, the halted infrastructure project has now been given a second life as the newest Bangkok landmark, the nation's first pedestrian bridge park across a river. Situated in Bangkok's most significant historical area, the 360-degree view bridges the city‘s historic town and modern skyline at one glance. Anaha — “reflection of light” in the Hawaiian language — was designed to capture and reflect the light of the Pacific Ocean as well as the dramatic and ever-changing sky in Honolulu. Set within the Ward Village development, this multi-family residential project is informed by native Hawaiian plants and traditions, paying homage to the natural beauty and history of Honolulu. Anaha is oriented with its long axis perpendicular to the shoreline to preserve sight lines from mauka (mountains in Hawaiian) to makai (sea). Jing Mian Xin Cheng on Beijing’s Fourth Ring Road mediates between the scale of the large urban development, busy road arteries and pedestrian foot traffic. CLOU engaged in designing a new landscape as well as two office towers linked by a retail podium in between. The landscape reacts to a more intimate and friendly human scale while the distinctive façade design signals its presence at a distance and to those passing by. The appearance of both the landscape and the facade shifts as observers move around the development - large pleats on the retail podium cast dynamic shadows, while the towers’ curtain walls undulate creating reflections and shadows.
