WrocLOFT
WrocLOFT it’s an adaptation of a former gymnastic hall in a heritage-listed and over 100 years old building.

THE BUILDING:
The building’s function was changed from its original educational purpose to residential use as part of a developer-led commercialization process. From the open space of the gymnastic hall, two residential units were created. Inside each unit, lightweight prestressed mezzanine floors were constructed, enabling two levels to be built within the tall and spacious volume.

Johnson St Loft
The intrigue of the large volume of interior space in these existing New Orleans Shotgun dwellings directed the concept of converting this space and flow into a more efficient and modern design. Challenges to this project included specific restrictions due to its unusual property boundary as well as budget limitations. However, this afforded me the full autonomy of the project design and execution.

Vertical Loft
Located in the heart of the Greenwich Village historic district in New York City, this project called for the complete renovation of a five- story, 1830’s townhouse. The historic Federal Style façade was carefully preserved during construction, as were a majority of the existing interior floor plates. Behind this masonry face we created a new world centered around light, space, openness, and revelation. New apertures through floors and ceilings channel natural light from the skylight down to the lowest level.

Natural light illuminates one of Charlottesville’s oldest downtown buildings
What was once a dark commercial space within the oldest building on the downtown pedestrian mall in Charlottesville, Virginia is now a spacious open floor apartment with sleeping loft. Multiple modes of direct and indirect natural lighting animate the space.

At the heart of the design by Bushman Dreyfus Architects is a cabinet ‘box’ with hidden hardware, secret doors and rooms (containing kitchen, bathroom and storage areas) runs the length of the interior. The box is clad with rough sawn white oak with a light stain. The floor planks are also white oak, keeping the colour and material palette to a minimum.

Grand Street Loft
From the outset, our clients' needs were clear: they had purchased a loft with no walls and wanted to maintain its open, airy feel. However, they still required a kitchen, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms to make the space functional.
We found the perfect solution with a single, bold gesture. By introducing a central freestanding volume to house the kitchen and bathrooms, we were able to meet their requirements without compromising the loft’s open layout. The surrounding spaces flow seamlessly around this central core, whose walls do not touch the ceiling or perimeter walls, preserving a sense of continuity and enhancing the loft's original, expansive character.
