S Design Farm enfolds the Murakoshi House in a metal-panelled volume devoid of windows
Built on a pentagonal-shaped plot in a bustling neighbourhood of Tokyo, the Murakoshi House, designed by S Design Farm is an unconventional three-storey residence. Surrounded by roads on three sides in a flood-prone area due to a nearby stream, the site possessed several challenges.

In response to the client’s privacy concerns, the structure is enclosed in metal panels supported by a concrete foundation, with limited openings on one of the exterior walls. A large window in an exterior atrium that leads to a courtyard on the first floor provides light and ventilation to the interiors while maintaining privacy.

Vertes Retreat by WOVEN Architecture and Design embraces the Sunshine Coast of Canada
Perched high above a pristine lake on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada, the L-shaped form of this family retreat by WOVEN Architecture and Design appears to hug its rocky surroundings.

One wing of the L-shape formation includes the Great Room, while the other two-storey wing houses a garage, media room, and bedrooms above.

In response to the northern rainforest climate, a large roof overhangs both the wings, providing generous covered outdoor space. Inside, skylights are present throughout the length of the interior circulation of both wings of the house while large openings frame views of the lake and the rocky landscape beyond.

JGMA’s design strategy for the Daley College - Manufacturing, Technology and Engineering Center (MTEC) utilizes building transparency to showcase machines, equipment, and products integral to the learning objectives of the colleges as well as provide a visual connection to the surrounding West Lawn community. The seamless fluidity to the building’s form was inspired by the constant and linear flow of the manufacturing process. The building spans the main thoroughfare of 76th Street with a strong industrial bridge that links the south and north campus of Richard J. Daley College.

Fairfax Conversion
Located in the West Hollywood/Fairfax neighborhood of Los Angeles, the site is just north of a transition from a smaller, two-lane pedestrian-friendly shopping district to a larger, four-lane driver-based thoroughfare with a central median. The project aims to expand this commercial district by addressing this shift from pedestrian to commuter. Additionally, it had to reconcile the variety of immediate contexts; a former industrial building with a commercial program in a relatively residential block.
