Workshop Kitchen & Bar
The client requested a fresh new architectural identity to correspond with his opening of the Workshop Kitchen & Bar restaurant in Palm Springs, CA. The given site, the Historic El Paseo building, immediately constrained the possibilities of the design, which we exploited to our advantage. The project seeks to retain the elegance of the existing space, by enhancing the verticality of the existing space. The concrete furniture stands in immediate contrast to the white existing building. In the center aisle, a large communal dining table acts as a more public dining space, while large monolithic concrete booths provide a more intimate dining setting. Responding to strong and specific data, our proposal for this project purposefully takes into consideration the cultural heritage in which it is set. Situated at terminus of the Damour River, the site is a gently sloping terrain with stupendous views of the Mediterranean and the river.
Our proposal utilizes a radical system that is found in several natural formations: a branching configuration. It seemed like the natural solution to gently break down the site's slope into a series of volumes perfectly oriented to the key sea and river views without obstruction from other buildings. 50 Lispenard
50 Lispenard is a seven story refurbishment project located in the TriBeCa neighborhood of New York City. The original building was a garment factory, and is historically protected, thus the extent of the refurbishment was limited to strictly interior improvements, with the exception of a duplex penthouse addition to the roof. The interiors are rich with wood, steel, and concrete, recalling the original industrial function of the building. The duplex penthouse revolves around a double height void and glass bridge overlooking two outdoor roof terraces. More
