Our clients purchased a fabulous but weary mid century home designed in 1968 by architect Harry Ernest. They had been hunting for a heritage home to nurture into their long term home and they were excited by the potential of the single level brick house located in Brighton, a beachside suburb of Melbourne, with its floor plan wrapped around a sunny north-facing courtyard. Mid-Century Reimagined: Caulfield Residence

An alteration and addition that reimagines a mid-century home in Caulfield for contemporary living, while celebrating the character of the original structure. The design carries the home’s mid-century curves into both the architecture and interiors, creating a seamless dialogue between old and new. The addition adopts a considered palette of orange brick, matched to the existing house and dark cladding, to complement the original dwelling while giving the extension a contemporary yet harmonious presence. The project called for an addition and “re mapping“ of an existing 1960 residence on the upper bench of Salt Lake City. The design started with the landscape which grew out of the client’s art collection. The garden was organized around the idea of journey and repose. The end of the journey are two bronze elephants which are situated on a stainless-steel gabion filled with recycle glass and lite from below. The garden is only accessible from the house through the kitchen. Clifton Hill House

An award-winning addition to a modernist home in Sumner, Christchurch, originally designed in 1965 by Austrian architect, Ernst Killnan. Commanding spectacular views over the Pacific Ocean and Christchurch city, the house had previously been used only for holidays. The brief was to convert it into a comfortable and contemporary, permanent home.
