Hunsett Mill
Hunsett Mill on the Norfolk Broads by Acme architects has scooped the Royal Institute of British Architects’ (RIBA) prestigious Manser Medal 2010 for the best new house or major extension in the UK in association with HSBC Private Bank. The presentation of the award took place at a ceremony at the RIBA last night, at which the winner received an increased prize of £10,000 and a new specially commissioned trophy designed by artist Petr Wiegl from presenter, designer, author and host Kevin McCloud. Lunchroom and workshop in Best
In the center of Best the direct surroundings of the mill have been considerably upgraded, initiated by Cello. Cello provides care and services for people with disabilities to living, working and leisure. At the site of the windmill in Best they developed a lunchroom and workshop -titled EEHT- for their cliënts. Ateliereen has supervised the building plans in Best. One part of the plan involved a very thorough renovation of the old mill house into a lunchroom. Three outer facades have been retained, the fourth façade has been given a clear and transparent entrance. The roof and the interior have been completely renewed. The Mill Process – a Photographic Essay
Many a time have architectural theoreticians and historians pointed out the ambiguous role of photography in the study of architecture. Particularly the fact that photography has, besides its documentary function, the potential to visually interpret a building and create its own pictorial reality has been mentioned repeatedly.The Photographic Project Mill follows the conversion of a building from the 1960s. It documents both the process of the conversion and the state of the building upon completion. The resulting set of pictures intertwines these two layers of interpretation.
