Modular Modern Farmhouse
Factory built in 4 sections and crane set in 8 hrs, this home was built for under $150/sf for a Architect's family of four in the vibrant small town of Lawrence Kansas. The home is net zero ready with the addition of solar panels and pays ohmage to the civil war ear historic neighborhood with a simple gable form and large wrap around porch.

BXB studio spreads Farmhouse program over five barns with each their own function and distinct wood texture
Taking five farm buildings due for demolition, the concept for this Polish farmhouse by BXB studio sees five interconnected barns that create a highly dynamic space. Future development could include creative reconstruction of the historic house due for demolition per the client’s wishes.

The seemingly scattered arrangement of the barns is informed by the surrounding landscape, sun angles, and building function. Driven by principles of sustainable development, the architecture ensures the preservation of a valuable tree stand and large expanses of sunlit glazing are shaded by terrace roofs or dense greenery to ensure that the house does not receive excessive sun exposure.

Internal conversion of a rural Belgian farmhouse strikes a balance between original and contemporary elements
For the internal conversion of a farmhouse in rural Afsnee, Ghent, JUMA Architects sought to strike a balance between the authentic elements of an existing farmhouse and a newly designed contemporary interior. The existing space was largely open and used primarily as an office area. JUMA began by introducing a logical sequence of warmly finished living areas to the open volume.

Farm Walik, Riethoven
National monumental farm Walik, a former cow and horse stable has been converted over the centuries into an inhabited farm. The exterior has little historical value due to the many changes and renovation, but the interior is largely intact. That is why, partly over the existing window openings, a new masonry shell and wooden slats are installed on the outside of the farm. A variant new window is added to the stone front. This gives a direct view on the surrounding landscape with the newly laid natural garden from the dining room. The morning sun comes in.

Once a farmhouse, tucked into rural Algarve (Southern Portugal) and surrounded by the luscious vegetation of a natural reserve, is now a conceptual space tuned in with the land topography and flooded with light and air.
Roof therapy should be the next trend, crossing spacial boundaries is liberating, empowering, and challenging.
