The practicality of vertical living meets the comfort of an urban townhouse in this sixteen-storey residential condominium rising on a 586 square meter lot in an upscale neighborhood in San Juan City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Each of the twelve luxurious residential flats is housed on its own exclusive and unique floor with a generous area of 258 square meters per unit. A growing family sets out the necessity of enlarge their home of three rooms and 85m2 by adding a second apartment, originally with two rooms and 60m2. The main premise to keep in mind is that the family has to be able to keep on living in their own home during the construction course.   The morphologic analysis of the original apartment emphasize that the night space presented a functional distribution of three rooms and two bathrooms, with minimum circulation area and a suitable size. Built for a retired couple, this house was designed for single-floor living, with the entire first floor ADA accessible. The upstairs rooms accommodate visiting children and grandchildren, with plenty of bright open spaces for the family to spread out and have fun. Patios, covered porches, and expansive windows wrap around the house, allowing everyone to sit out and enjoy the sea breezes on sunny days, or take in the waterfront view from the comfort of the sun room or living room when the weather isn’t as warm.
