Modern remodel

 The kitchen is always the heart of the home and originally the kitchen was inaccessible to the other living spaces. With this remodel, we made the kitchen the heart of the home again and connected the spaces proximity wise and you can see all the spaces in one spot –nice for hosting and just living there as a family. This penthouse overlooks Lincoln Park. The owner obtained 4,500 sf of raw space atop a luxury high-rise and wanted an open-plan contemporary residence that maximizes expansive city and lake views.   The French-inspired building has a mansard roof with arched windows and vaulted ceilings. Influenced by these unalterable elements, the interior architecture expresses the vault detail in ceilings and doorways throughout. Empty-nester clients hoped to transform this dated, 1950’s mid-century split level, into an open, highly functional home well suited for large family gatherings, without modifying the existing 2600 finished square footage. A new dynamic entry, playing off the existing roof planes, awakened a tired exterior. The dated, enclosed kitchen became a bright, sleek, modern galley, with large windows that open onto a new outdoor dining deck, and built-in breakfast nook.
