Bold and minimalistic ‘Yellow Box’ stands out in its bustling urban context

Reflective of the spice business the client is engaged in, the overall design concept for this office by TRAANSPACE Architects features arches in the colour yellow set against a neutral material palette of grey lime plaster and wooden wicker furniture. Bold and minimalistic, the façade contrasts starkly with its chaotic urban surroundings.  Credit: Tejas Shah Photography Located in the dense city area of Vadodara, India, the office is located on a very tight plot measuring a mere 450 square feet. It is surrounded by shops sharing terraces on 3 sides, leaving only the road side open for light, ventilation and accessibility. Chesapeake

This new house is located in NW Washington DC on a steeply-sloped and forested site. The project is a speculative house for a local developer, so it was designed to be constructed efficiently. The composition is organized as a series of vertical volumes situated within the trees, and stepping down the sloped site. The first floor is tall, so the volumes seem to “float” above the ground. A glassed-in corner dining room is featured from the street, while the living room and kitchen are situated toward the rear of the house, facing the overlook of pool and rear yard. The garage is 2 levels below the house, burrowed into the rear of the site, with its roof serving as a deck for the pool. The rear wall of the house... Vertical House

Located on one of the few lots in Dallas elevated enough to enjoy a view of the downtown skyline, the five-story Vertical House rises dramatically above the treetops to capture views of the surrounding gardens and the skyline beyond. Characterized by clean lines, sheer glass walls, and sculptural sun shades, this sharply-detailed house offers an intriguing counterpoint to the tropical ambiance of its forest-like setting. The client, an avid collector of exotic plants, wanted a house that would not only maximize views of the site, but also maintain privacy from neighboring properties. In response, the house was conceived as two interlocking, contrasting volumes: one half is transparent and oriented toward views of the... More
