Circular office building GMB Ijhorst
For the new GMB office building in IJhorst, the starting point was clear: a future-proof design with a high degree of circularity and conscious material use. The application of Zwarthout | Shou Sugi Ban’s Yoroi façade cladding aligns with this ambition, both aesthetically and technically.
Circular office building with a biobased coreDue to GMB’s growth, the existing location no longer met its needs. The new office comprises 870 m², distributed over two floors, and was designed with a minimum GPR score (Dutch sustainability assessment tool) of 8.0 as a baseline, indicating a high sustainability performance.
The primary structure and floors are executed in CLT, with façades in timber frame construction. The bu... More

Set within a green residential environment, this public building designed by RAU architects demonstrates how material performance and architectural expression can reinforce one another. The building’s monolithic appearance is defined by Yoroi; a deeply charred bamboo façade developed for projects where aesthetics, durability and certified fire safety are equally essential.

But over the several discussions we had, it became clear that substantial changes will be required and slowly, incrementally, the entire design was transformed.... More

Yoroi | Fire-safe charred bamboo for uncompromising façade architecture
B-s1,d0 fire performance. No chemical fire retardants. A bio-based material with a powerful architectural identity.

Yoroi brings these demands together in one distinctive façade material.
Developed by Zwarthout | Shou Sugi Ban, Yoroi is a deeply charred façade cladding made from FSC®-certified MOSO® Bamboo X-treme®. Its intense black, tactile surface gives buil... More
