Munkegaard

Arne Jacobsen designed the Munkegård fixture for Munkegårdsskolen in Søborg, Denmark in 1955. This was the first recessed fixture which illuminated the ceiling, thereby evening out light contrasts.The fixture had a discreet presence in the room, in line with Arne Jacobsen´s architectural approach.   The fixture looks like a disc hovering just below the ceiling – an impression primarily created by the illuminated opening and the suspended placement of the fixture below the mounting surface.
