M & M 's house

A single-family dwelling, a 1500 m² plot of land in Trofa. From Rua do Carvalhinho to the north, the topography drops 2.4 m to the adjacent road to the south, the EN104. In the east, the elevation of the abutting soil rises 2 m above the land. We demolished the old farming house facing the road made of soft stone and clay with a packed earth floor. An urban annoyance. We kept the square schist well, the old fruit tree and the location of the old accesses to the land on the north and south sides. The geometric reasons for the proposal were in place – tree and well. We tried an "S". Then a "4", and we failed.  An "H" emerged, occupying the center of the plot: The "legs" embrace the tree and the "arms" go around the well. The "H" has a soci... More

R P F V house

The proposal was made for a plot of land with 1697 m², where 112 m² were covered area that corresponded to a demolished two-floor house and attic that had a total floor area of around 300 m². Out of the 1697 m² of land, only 600 m² could be built on, as the rest of the land is part of the Agricultural Reserve. The land is on a steep west-east slope divided into two terraces with a nine-metre total difference in elevation. The constructive area was isolated from the street and surrounded by the Agricultural Reserve, below street level. The construction was composed of a house, a threshing floor in the south and a granary; the house was built with thick schist walls, the upper floor and threshing floor were covered in slate. We demolished... E D & J O house

The project was to demolish a single-family dwellingand build another one in its place in the centre of V. N. de Famalicão. The proposal is on a triangular urban plot of land covering an area of 940.80 m2. The topographyincludes a 7.60 m slope down from west to east,so the elevations in the corner converge with those on the surrounding roads. The building on the site was of poor quality. Everything was demolished apart from the garage, below the elevation of the patio with level access from the road at the lower level. The surrounding walls also held back the earth, below the street level to the west and above street level to the east. The house has a 367.20 m2 footprint and a gross area of 408.90 m2 on two floors. Floor 0 is 99.30 m... More

N P HOUSE

The request was adjust an old house, with 262.09 sqm, to the current standards of comfort for a 4 persons family and adequate it to the current building regulations. The old house emerges in the middle of a great mass of trees, as a landmark. The construction is divided in two floors. The ground-floor dedicated to service functions and garage, and the top floor exclusively dedicated to social divisions. The project began without questioning the architectonical value of the pre-existence – maintain it was a demand. The proposal maintains the current volume, offering the services and the social spaces for the family. The extension develops itself in the direction of the slope (west), where it opens a hole for a central courtyar... More

V N pavilion

I received an urgent call from a client asking me to transform a modest wooden frame shelter (covered with tile) into a renovated and bigger garden pavilion. It was a basic construction in a eclectic yard landscape serving a luxury villa. The house was surrounded by successive kitsch extensions. The request was to design a garden structure able to host a family wedding four months later. - The challenge didn’t promise! The object was fragile and too small. In the meantimes the clients bought the attached property and the new project gained a new front - new possibilities! The neighborhood buildings were (and are) humble and with variety in their forms, colors and facades. In the surrounding landscape emerges an assort... More
