See Through House
The Owners of this narrow, dark Foggy Bottom rowhouse desired a space of openness and light. To achieve this, a simple floor plan was established, with no dividing walls and all programmatic elements running along the party walls. A transparent volume of light which runs from basement to roof was created by aligning glass floors on every level. The result is a tapestry of solid and voids which define fully functional floor plates, and allow light and views to run vertically and unobstructed through the whole house.Large sliding doors and frosted glass panels on upper level floors bring in additional light, and complement the steel stairs, and bamboo floors. Ford
Ford moved its Dutch headquarters, including FCE Bank, to The Oak Building, a wing of the Garden Offices in Amstelveen. Before the design phase, DZAP ran a technical due diligence investigation and then worked towards a design for a modern, open, transparent office. The characteristics: distinctive, inspiring, functional, robust, and with a clear Ford identity. The use of heavy industrial elements evokes the atmosphere of an old-fashioned garage. The company’s rich history is given a place of honour in the location on the ‘wall of fame’ in the cafeteria. More

Smoky Quartz
The goal for this existing suburban home was to “break open the box” to allow views of the surrounding wooded landscape. Interconnected spaces where created where previously there were walls dividing them. The kitchen and den are now opened up to the new family room, and the entry offers a view directly through the space to the trees beyond. The rear roof was raised in order to maximize views and light with large picture windows. Custom stained ash panels unify the various areas of the home. The family room’s vertical Macassar Ebony storage unit and Viroc clad chimney add warmth and texture to the double height space. The exterior received a facelift which included new cladding (Viroc and Hardi panel) and windows. More

Seidenberg Residence
Metcalfe reconceived this mid-century “kit house” by reorienting the house towards its rear yard and adding a glass connector bridge, linking a new bedroom nestled in the trees to the rest of the house. The renovations completed at the Seidenberg House convey our unique approach to play, design, and appreciation of tree-filled vistas.
