The Lviv Hotel is a characteristic representative of Soviet constructivism in architecture and at the same time a bright phenomenon among other buildings of this era, despite the fact that at the time of its construction the main task of local architects was to adapt the standard project to the existing situation, and the creation of exclusive architectural elements, to put it mildly, was not welcomed (especially if they had a purely aesthetic function). This new recreational farmhouse designed by Danish architecture studio NORRØN embraces Danish ruralism and bridges history and contemporary ways of living. Coined around concepts of biodynamic food production, freely grazing animals and farm to table, the design evokes the region’s vernacular building tradition and inquisitively reinterprets the traditional Danish farmhouse.

Escape Pod
The owners of this 1880s Italianate two-flat wanted to convert the property to a single-family home. The design intent was to preserve the facade in accordance with landmark regulations, renovate the interior, and add contemporary steel and glass space at the back to offer an escape from daily life. The addition is a two-story space evoking the typology of an orangery—a glass-enclosed conservatory common in England where the owners have lived. The structure was unified by a three-story atrium with a steel and wood staircase connecting all floors. With large skylights, the atrium functions as a light well for lower floors. Oak Orangery Barn Conversion Project Video
The brief for this seasoned oak orangery was to design & build so as to optimise the use of a dead patio area and link two buildings of a barn conversion. Therefore extending the existing kitchen, incorporate a wine cellar into the floor of the new orangery, that has access to the lounge area within the other barn builidng.
The orangery features a roof lantern maximising natural light and as a result of using folding sliding doors on the sides allows the whole area to be open to their landscaped garden.
The orangery has a microporous stain finish to reduce ultraviolet light damage and the roof incorporates the latest, soft blue, easy clean, solar control glass having a 0.9 u value and keeps out 78% of the unwanted heat in summer.... More
