Providing a sense of calm and refuge in balance with the landscape and sky, this 4,300 square-foot home in Bend, Oregon is designed as a regular weekend getaway for a couple and their extended family. The house by architecture practice Hacker draws on the natural forms, colours and textures of the surrounding landscape which includes volcanic cinder cones, lava flows, and jagged mountains. Michael Green Architecture’s Oregon Forest Science Complex demonstrates the benefits of mass timber construction

Pioneers of mass timber in North America, Michael Green Architecture has recently completed two buildings for the College of Forestry at Oregon State University: the new George W. Peavy Forest Science Center (Peavy Hall) and the A.A. ‘Red’ Emmerson Advanced Wood Products Laboratory. The two buildings, which together form the Oregon Forest Science Complex, offer study and research space for the management and support of forest ecosystems in the 21st century.
