PERFORATED PANELS

Perforations, whether holes or patterns, add a unique transparency to buildings. The play of light and shadow creates a controlled penetration of light and air, for improved building ventilation. Perforated zinc, thanks to its high durability and low maintenance requirements, is a durable, environmentally friendly material for buildings with an exceptional lifespan. It benefits from a favorable overall energy balance, including 100% recyclability. It acts elegantly with variable-geometry transparencies depending on the degree of shading required. More

White Office Building

White Office Building Project. The designed structure of the building is a compact form consisting of two cuboids stacked on top of each other, close in plan dimensions, rotated 90 degrees relative to each other, and additionally shifted. Breaking the uniform cuboid emphasizes a different function for the ground floor compared to the first and second floors. Additionally, these two volumes are distinguished by the finish of the facades. Andrzej Niegrzybowski Andrzej Niegrzybowski The ground floor features a glass surface reflecting the surrounding greenery and accommodating office spaces as well as its facilities. The first and second floors have a uniform, snow-white facade made of laminated panels, housing a clothing showroom.... More

Thanopoulos Supermarket

The main idea was to change the notion of the supermarket as it exists today in Greece -indifferent big boxes with long alleys of products. For us, the supermarket had to be resolved as an interpretation of an urban market place where you go to different shops to find different goods and interfere with other people. Mariana Bisti Mariana Bisti Mariana Bisti Mariana Bisti Following the refurbishment, the super market extends to 1500m2 and was limited to two floors occupying a larger area than it did before on three floors. The storage areas, which in the past occupied the majority of the space of the basement, were moved to the 1st and 2nd floors, setting the basement space free for use for the supermarket. Monman Cafe by Arkylab is a spatial coalescence of tectonic earth, wood and metal in Mexico

Arkylab, a Mexico-based firm, spatially brings together the smell of coffee, textures of the earth walls, and wooden and metal envelope in visual synthesis with the surrounding vegetation in this coffee shop project in Aguascalientes. Paulina Ojeda Located in the northern part of the city, the 250sqm space deploys an architectural program that spreads over two levels housing a speciality cafe. The cafe entrance is marked by a rammed earth wall that encloses all the elements of that level while directing the users towards the central interior space. A small perimeter garden surrounds the space, detaching it from the outside and creating an enjoyable introverted space while the west facade equips the service areas. Paulina Oje... More

Parking AZ Sint-Jan Brugge

The AZ Sint Jan Hospital in Bruges (BE) has a large parking garage. This completely new parking garage can accommodate more than 350 vehicles. This new parking garage was designed by VK Architects & Engineers from Roeselare (BE). A perforated facade has been chosen in which the shape of the profile, which has short and long sides, is also placed asymmetrically. Add to this the special Pearl coating, with a mother-of-pearl effect, and it results in a very special facade. The Specials department of ArcelorMittal Construction has developed a specially adapted perforated profile for this project, taking this asymmetrical assembly into account. This version in Gold Perla (gold with Pearl effect) in combination with the largely perforated s... More

Apartment P5

Although it is located in one of the most prominent sites in Koper, this apartment was in extremely poor condition when we first saw it. The building was built in the early 70s and since then not much has changed; the former windows were inappropriate by today's standards, the lack of a (efficient) heating solution was still a big problem, the floor plan wasn’t appropriate for a contemporary lifestyle, … After a few meetings with the client, it became clear that a complete renovation was the only option.    To meet the client’s needs, we transformed this two-bedroom apartment into a one bedroom home, with a large living area that combines the kitchen, the dining room and the living room. This part of the apart... More

Art space Factory 1963, Busan

In Busan, South Korea, Factory 1963 has been transformed into an art gallery. We created the facade with 2000 m2 of MD Expanded metal in the MD Academy design. We used a particularly durable class 2 coating that maintains the integrity of the color, which is essential because of the strong sunlight in South Korea. The MD Expanded metal is fastened to the existing building with the MD Verti system, while the screws are in the same color as the Expanded metal for a seamless finish. Shopping centre Kalanderstraat

The BFAS architecture firm has designed a striking new shopping center in the heart of Enschede. For this project, the architect specially developed two different types of facade panels in collaboration with Metadecor.SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTSSituated in a traditional shopping area, the location posed specific requirements regarding both architecture and urban planning. What’s more, recent developments in the retail market created high demands for the building’s character and ceiling height. Adding to the challenge was the fact that the future renters were unknown at the beginning of the design phase; hence, the building needed to offer numerous possibilities for subdivision. The monomorphic HEMA store on site was no longer suitable in any way.... More

Cultural Center, Ieper (Ypres), Belgium

We supplied the Cultural Center at Ieper (Ypres) with a sheet wall facade of MD Expanded metal. This facade forms a seamless, continuous skin around the building. As well as being a quality product, using a copper facade is also highly aesthetic. The main reasons for using copper as a material are the malleability and abrasion resistance. Under the stresses of air temperatures and rainfall, copper forms an impermeable oxide layer which initially develops into a deep brown and then stabilises into the characteristic patina color. This oxide layer protects the copper directly from the elements. More

Dutch Architecture Institute

The NAI reopened in the late summer of 2011 after a grand renovation. This national museum for architecture has a transparent block in a series of columns for the library and administration, with an enormous steel canopy overhanging. The canopy is surrounded by MD Expanded metal with various openings. This type of Expanded metal is an effective sunscreen with graduated transparency to control the sun’s ray on the glass walls, and we used the MD Resto system to fix the panels. These were provided with bed hook recesses in the frameworks. More
