The dramatic site largely informed the design of this residence. Early explorations of a serpentine architecture threading through large, slumbering boulders and towering evergreen trees resulted in a design which cascades the site, negotiating the sectional character of the lot, leading to the water’s edge. The Moda Pier, a historical structure designed by Vedat Tek in 1916-1917, underwent a re-functioning project to revive its role in Kadıköy's sea transportation. The restoration and re-functioning aimed to integrate the pier into contemporary needs while preserving its historical significance. The ground level, transformed into a book-cafe and working area, features an open-plan space. Removal of additional walls created a flexible layout, offering various scenarios. Service units and toilets are discreetly placed to maintain the space's homogeneous character. The wooden ceiling, previously damaged, was restored, maintaining consistency with original woodwork. Developed through extensive collaboration with Parks Victoria, numerous stakeholders and specialist consultants, the proposed redevelopment will include a new pier and boat landing, communal seating terrace and pavilion, Little Penguin viewing boardwalk and retention of the much-loved heritage kiosk. Altona Pier is a much-loved community landmark that has played a vital role in the growth of the suburb since the 1800s. With an industrial and shipping past, today the pier is enjoyed for promenading, swimming, fishing, boating and socialising. The new geometry is crafted to provide an experiential quality and fulfill the functional brief. The main pier offers 260m of widened length, supporting increased visitor numbers, ambulance access, bikes and prams to enjoy a relaxed stroll over the water. Extending 260 feet into Washington, D.C.'s Potomac River, the project—DC's first office building to be built on a pier—transforms an existing 1950s pier on the Washington Channel into a Class A office building and is the main cruise depot for the chartered ships of Entertainment Cruises.  Pier 4 brings new vitality to the waterfront, with a 30,000-square-foot design that sits lightly upon the existing pier and canopy and provides users with spectacular view corridors and natural light.
