In many houses they have porches. They are usually open spaces that can only be enjoyed during good weather. With the enclosing of a porch, a new comfortable space is created in the house that, thanks to the thermal insulation, can be easily heated during the winter. In this house they had a large porch that was not used for most of the year. It has been closed on both sides. There is a fixed part, with a three-section PVC balcony with a wood finish. Access is through a sliding balcony made of the same material and color. This new outdoor deck and enclosure is perched atop an existing rear garage behind a DC row house. The Owners requested a private space for spending time and entertaining, with shade for the intense summer heat. A 6-story apartment building sits behind it across the alley, exposing the back and top of the deck to all the windows units.  KUBE's solution was to create a protective “armor” that shields the deck from outside views, but allows for viewing out from the inside. The main level of this three story residence was completely remodeled, in order to unify the living spaces and open the interior to views of the park with new floor to ceiling doors and windows. Decks were re-configured to become outdoor rooms. The home's exterior received a facelift, which included all new cladding and roofing. Materials used inside and out are Viroc, Hardie panel, polygal canopies, steel railings, NANA wall, mdf panels and LED strip lighting. More
