Casa Friscanzana
Friscanzana house is a country mansion harmoniously placed in the network of stone walls and typical paths in the countryside surrounding the Sicilian town of Ragusa.

The house consists of a main building, extending lengthwise with a string of broad rooms divided by transversal bearing walls, and two juxtaposed annexes.

The project is based on a deep and (auto)ironical analysis of the Sicilian character, meant both as a body of endemic behaviors and as an interpretation of clichés about the “Sicilian man” found in the media and particularly in movies.

REDA has received an award with its SGA Residence project within the scope of the 14th Western Mediterranean Architecture Awards organized by the Antalya Branch of the Chamber of Architects.
Main idea behind the design was to create a sustainable building, using natural materials and emphasizing their natural beauty. It was relevant because the site allows a natural sunlight and is located in a very natural environment, surrounded by olive groves.
The structure was placed on the east-west axis, taking into account the climate of the region, the benefit of sunlight and the dominant Taurus Mountains view during the settlement.
