In that sense, we understand inspiration as a creative interpretation of the client’s requirements and the particular conditions of the site. The main feature of this project is dynamism, both spatial and formal.Behind a rectangular volume there are many sloping lines. Surprises along the way are the result. Ethelett Distribution. The Urbane Mexico restaurant is on a corner, between a main street and a secondary one. Local regulations require not to build in a five-meter strip on the front of the property. We used this space as parking and access. We occupied the remaining surface with the two-level restaurant. The ground floor dining area occupies a third of this level. This building filled with small shops needed renovation that could provide a fresh look and appearance for the shop owners and the direct surrounding buildings and public space. In our design we stripped the building to its characteristic original appearance decades ago: expressive concrete columns and beams with a recessed facade. To further express this look we insulated the facade and filled it with vertical wooden battens. In this way the hidden potential of the building is rediscovered, making it stand firmly in its surroundings. We also added a new awning to the facade that functions as a real promenade. The Vienna Terraces are one of the new design measures developed in the Vienna Valley Urban Development Plan that addresses the urgent localized need to provide more public open space for the 5th and 6th Viennese districts. Bridging over the entrenched U4 subway line, the terraces expand the existing public space directly to the edge of the Vienna River. The pedestrian and cycling routes along the south bank of the Vienna River are reconceived as a welcoming, linear public space with recreational and social qualities. Dror + Gensler, selected among several international shortlisted firms, have won an invited competition for the masterplan of Galataport, a vital site on the Bosphorus in the heart of Istanbul. Situated across from the Old City, the 110,000-square-meter area includes the Karaköy and Salıpazarı Quays and boasts a cluster of historic landmarks and contemporary cultural icons, including the Istanbul Modern. A significant portion of the site hosts an active cruise terminal and is closed off to the public due to security measures. Its 1.2-kilometer-long boardwalk is restricted to maintenance, deliveries, and the five to six thousand passengers that disembark each ship, depriving the city of breathtaking views.
