Charles River Island

Proposal This project envisions replacing the Massachusetts Avenue (Harvard) Bridge with a new structure spanning the Charles River Basin. At its center, a tear-shaped island provides vibrant public spaces, gardens, and pathways for recreation and gathering. The bridge’s sculptural form rises gently 15 feet above the current span, allowing greater clearance for rowing and boating below. Its twin ribbon-like lanes expand at mid-span, framing views of the island and city beyond. Together, the bridge and island establish a new civic gateway linking MIT to Boston’s Back Bay. Context & Inspiration Boston’s waterfront has long been shaped by transformative engineering and design. The existing 19th-century bridge, while fu... More

IzQ Innovation Center

The IZTO building, which was designed and built in 1986 according to the administrative needs of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce, holds a distinct position in the urban memory of the city of Izmir along the coastline, but was unable to respond to the needs of a new scenario. Through the lens of adaptive reuse, the building was reconfigured with a collection of new demands and scenarios for the design of the innovation center. Through extensive analysis and calculations, structural and technological interventions at different scales were determined and executed in order to repurpose the building program for more integrated public use. Fort Steilacoom Park Restroom

Fivedot partnered with Site Workshop to design a new public restroom for Fort Steilacoom Park in Lakewood, Washington, a large regional park known for its open meadows, trails, and remnants of historic farm structures. Caption Rather than selecting a pre-fabricated restroom unit, the design team and client collaborated on a custom building that integrates more naturally into the park’s rural character. The resulting 812-square-foot structure draws inspiration from the agricultural buildings that once defined the site. Its simple gabled form, exposed wood framing, and durable materials evoke a sense of permanence and familiarity, while remaining efficient and easy to maintain. T9 Tramway Maintenance and Warehousing Center

Completed in 2021 by Ferrier Marchetti Studio, the T9 Tramway Maintenance and Warehousing Center in Orly stands as an infrastructure project at a railway confluence in the Seine Valley. This project addresses the dynamic relationship with the urban landscape, with its core concept translating the aesthetics of movement into a built form that encourages a dynamic perception of surrounding spaces.  Ferrier Marchetti Studio / Photo Luc Boegly Caption The T9 Tramway Maintenance and Warehousing Center in Orly demonstrates how a major operational facility can be integrated into its surroundings. Positioned at the crossroads of the rail and river networks, its design navigates the complex interplay between urban infrastructure and... More

Jiangxin Island Art Hotel

Situated on the historically rich Jiangxin Island in Wenzhou, this project presents a unique challenge: how to design an art hotel that respects the island’s natural beauty and cultural significance while shaping a vision for its future. Jiangxin Island, a beacon of maritime trade for over a thousand years, is also the birthplace of more than 800 Chinese poems. These legacies—both natural and cultural—demand a thoughtful response in the design of the hotel, balancing preservation with innovation. Unlike conventional hotel models, this design seeks to integrate the built form with the island’s landscape. The architecture consists of a series of small, sculptural volumes that blend into the nat... More

Natura Gardens

The 30-acre Natura Gardens incorporates 10 acres of restored wetlands, striking a delicate balance between community needs and environmental responsibility. The restored wetlands became an opportunity to demonstrate how communities can serve as the custodians of scarce environmental resources. The site plan integrates the wetlands so residents can experience the seasonal changes of this essential ecosystem. To pay homage to the cultural history of living around wetlands, the community’s open space features several chickees, the thatched-roof shelters of the indigenous Seminole Tribe.  Landscape Design Workshop & Avatar Productions Landscape Design Workshop & Avatar Productions Landscape Design Workshop &... Jade Alley

Project Statement This alleyway revitalization project is part of a large-scale master planned redevelopment of a defunct warehouse district north of downtown Miami.  Over the last few years, multiple phases of new building and programming through a partnership between a local developer and a larger international entity have created the visionary new Design District.  We were asked to conceptualize a vision for an underutilized alley, that would bring a fresh new life for this abandoned space.  The scope included the alley itself, facades of new mixed-use buildings fronting the alley, the renovation of trash rooms in an existing building into small tenant spaces for the alley, as well as a paving and landscape concept. Jogger's Park in Bandra West

Taking in vast expanses of the sea, the Jogger’s Park is a public open space, in Bandra, Mumbai, with an array of amenities for people to indulge in. Rejuvenating an old, dull space into a functional public park, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in partnership with the design team at Atelier ARBO, envisioned and brought to reality a well-planned garden arena for people to experience and utilize.   Siddharth Meghani Siddharth Meghani Siddharth Meghani Previously developed 20 years back, the park craved renovation along with modern public amenities and planning. VEGETAL JOINTS

The intervention consists of a series of transformations of the pedestrian soils and of the current permeable surfaces in order to generate a new system of journeys and specialized uses in conditions of public safety and in the absence of impediments and / or architectural barriers. ghisellini architetti The creation of new continuous and perfectly flat paved surfaces, for the exclusive use of pedestrians, as well as the design of new green planted areas, will allow the definition of a new continuous safe ground suitable for free access to the cemetery appurtenances even by people with different skill or wheelchair. ghisellini architetti ghisellini architetti A particular attention will be paid to the definition of choices... Battery Playscape

The Battery Playscape is located at the tip of Manhattan where land meets sea, locals meet tourists, and the bustle of the city yields to the presence of nature. Ecologically, the site is a dynamic confluence of water and land; a partly natural-partly constructed coastline that has been altered over time.    Sahar Coston-Hardy /Esto Sahar Coston-Hardy /Esto Conceived after Hurricane Sandy, the 1.5-acre Playscape responds to the site’s past and future flooding by telling the story of resilience, interwoven with play. It is the last piece of the Battery Conservancy’s masterplan which envisioned a verdant future for the then-dilapidated park. The Playscape realizes that vision through accessible, full-body pla... Revitalization of Orła Białego Square

Orła Białyego Square is a unique place in the structure of Szczecin, Poland. The Lodestar

DS Studio, Fishtnk, and Tom Svilans are proud to announce the completion of their most recent collaborative public art commission. Located in North Kelowna, British Columbia, this joint effort between the architecture firm, fabrication studio, and architectural design consultancy has resulted in a beacon of change for the local community. The Lodestar is a place maker and a shining example of how an age-old material can be digitally modified to suit contemporary needs. Standing 7.5 metres tall, with a radius of four metres at its base, and weighing three metric tons, The Lodestar straddles a large portion of the previously under-used public plaza. Posted just outside a recently completed RCMP station, all roads from here lead to a vibrant... More
