The current Clair Joie young workers' residence is now outdated. The renovation program includes a complete restructuring of the accommodations, with the repurposing of the space previously used as a cafeteria. All three buildings that make up the residence are being entirely redesigned, both architecturally and technically. Taking advantage of this renovation project, the buildings will also be upgraded from an environmental perspective. In the economic activity zone of the Ramalde parish, in the city of Porto, a program was developed that focused on the recovery of a set of vacant industrial buildings, transforming them into a paddle tennis club with an innovative concept. The set of existing pavilions, unused for some years and juxtaposed side by side, became a challenge for the adequacy of the planned program. In 2016, the old city of Segovia had around 2,500 inhabitants and experienced a continuous population decline. Due to this decrease, the neighborhood was left with almost no social infrastructure. The library, hospital, elementary school, and many other public services abandoned the area, leaving its residents with limited cultural, health, or social resources. The abstract reconstruction of a dilapidated barn provides the required inward expansion of the main house. The new living spaces in red wood flow into the barn and open up the main house onto the garden. As in the past, arches add rhythm to the abstract volume, and a covered terrace connects the interior courtyard with the rear garden. The stable was renovated with visible concrete additions and serves as a storage area, but an inward expansion of the farm will also be possible in the future with a guest room. Some people collect works of art, stamps, or coins, but our client for this project had a more unusual—and architectural—collection: miscellaneous second-hand building materials. He asked us to incorporate pieces from his collection—including parquets, plywood panels, an old villa door, a gas fireplace, and a complete kitchen—in our renovation of an abandoned showroom into a duplex apartment and workspace. Our design emerged from the qualities of the building materials he collected and the existing conditions of the building itself.
