HED completes the Frankel Detroit Observatory extension

The second oldest building to exist on the campus of the University of Michigan, the Judy and Stanley Frankel Detroit Observatory, was the first scientific research laboratory within the premises. The new renovation and addition were undertaken by HED architects to pay homage to the university’s history and encourage exploration and knowledge sharing.  Jason Keen The lack of amenities and inaccessibility of the building due to its dramatic hill setting posed a decrease in its visitors to only 350 per year, leading to significant underutilisation of the facility. Le Lab

Being a new place of innovation in Nice Méridia, Le Lab is an iconic, smart and ecological building. Sitting in the last urban corner piece in the district, Le Lab fits into its context, while meeting ambitious environmental, architectural and functional requirements. Signature building, the soft and luxuriant vegetation flourishes in the heart of a setting of 7 floors. Organized around a game of volumes and balance, it offers its residents and users wide views of the Mercantour. BioEngineering Center

The project is an extension to the teaching infrastructure for the BioEngineering Department. Tecnológico de Monterrey’s Queretaro campus was initially organized in a more or less recognizable Cartesian mesh in its first built volumes, arbitrarily rotated 41 degrees from the north. Given the absence of order and intention in the infrastructure that was built in the last 20 years, Sasaki Design was invited to develop a new master plan. Sasaki’s attempt aims to give order and meaning to the campus, as the current set lacks meaning and identity. The plan defines two axes in a Roman way that originate in a new "heart" from which everything would start.
