Coyote Circle ADU
Studio Lyon/Szot designed a 750 SF addition to an existing Spanish-style home from the 1970s. We looked at contemporary Portuguese and Spanish details to develop a material response to the addition and expansion. Our biggest challenge was connecting small rooms spread across the home into a fluid experience. A critical part of our brief was creating a flexible wing to accommodate an expanding extended family or a future caregiver. Critical to our consideration was recreating a shared space for the family to cook, live, and entertain in.

LMN Architects completes Interactive Learning Pavilion at UC Santa Barbara
Seattle-based LMN Architects has completed the development of an Interactive Learning Pavilion at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). A state-of-the-art educational facility, the pavilion is part of the University’s Pacific shoreline campus.

The new Interactive Learning Pavilion is the first dedicated classroom building to be constructed on the UCSB campus since 1967. Fire House
A new home was built to replace an existing burned-out residence on a severe hillside lot in the Riviera neighborhood of Santa Barbara. The building makes use of fire-resistant materials. Inspired by the mid-century Case Study homes of Southern California, the home is an expression of steel, concrete, and glass.

VISTA DE LA CUMBRE
A young family of four came to us to update an original 1950's California Ranch home nestled above The Mesa. With a modest budget and an owner savvy in both construction and design, we were able to renovate the existing house and add an additional 600 SF of usable living space, including a new two car garage and full master suite with a wall of glass looking out in the yard. The interior of the existing house was opened up to allow a free flowing space from through the main kitchen, living, and dining areas. Leading out to the owner designed rear yard is a large glass sliding wall, defining that indoor/outdoor connection California is known for. White finishes and cool woods lend a Scandinavian appeal to this classy and minimal space. More

MINIMALIST URBAN RESIDENCE
This private residence was an exercise in sophisticated design and modern minimalism. The design maximizes natural light with an abundance of fixed and sliding glass throughout the 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home. A simple material palette of ipe and white stucco was selected for the exterior, while the interior is warmed with custom walnut cabinetry, Italian marble and brass fixtures.
The home was designed with the region’s temperate climate in mind. Sliding doors and operable windows throughout the home offer limitless opportunities for ventilation while radiant heat cement floors and two indoor fireplaces provide warmth on cooler days. Going Coastal
Featuring ocean views aplenty courtesy of Western Window Systems, this mid-century coastal residence in Santa Barbara, California, is a remodel from Allen Associates Construction. In addition to adding more square footage and making the home more energy efficient, Allen Associates Construction utilized custom door and window systems from Western to support one of the project’s key goals: “creating ocean views from every space both inside and out.”
