Temporary Gatehouse

The objective of the project was to design a temporary security access gatehouse for the University of Mpumalanga for the period that the new main entrance is being constructed. A big challenge from the onset of the project was the extremely limited timeframe to implement the gatehouse paired with its temporary nature.  Caption A combined consciousness of time and temporality informed the design approach and explored the conversion of two 6m containers into a gatehouse facility that contains security offices, ablutions, pedestrian, and vehicular access control to the university campus.  Caption Beyond the time advantage of a container conversion, this construction method would give a physically lighter footprint onsite... The clients - a South African born couple that returned to Cape Town after residing abroad for two decades approached us to design them a permanant residencie that would be entriely in touch with nature, be simple and unique with the emphasis on natural light and space. They were specific with their brief for a home that allowed for maximum sunlight to be captured and filtered throughout the house by the day, invite the unobscured view into their home whilst maintaining maximum privacy. The architects had numerous site visits, at different times of the day, in order to get a thorough sense of the sites’ genius loci. Nando's Oshawa

Operating globally in 35 countries, Nando’s is an international restaurant chain that originated in South Africa; known for their Portuguese-style flame grilled chicken and welcoming hospitality, Nando’s is extremely proud of its Afro-Portuguese roots. This heritage is celebrated in the food, as well as, the art, music and design of every location; however, each “Casa” possesses a unique personality and style. Drawing cues from Mozambican/Portuguese culture the interiors for the Oshawa casa are a combination of earthy textures, rich warm colors and whimsical design elements with a hand-crafted appeal.
