A Home Free from Noise and Unwanted GazeThe site is located along a road formed in a valley between Myeongbong Mountain and a hilly area. It is surrounded by the ridges of Myeongbong Mountain to the northeast, while the southwest opens up to a wide, captivating landscape. The homeowners desired a quiet and private house where they could enjoy hobbies and leisure both indoors and outdoors. Our goal was to meet these requirements, harmonize with the surrounding nature, and create a design that allows for visual and physical expansion while shielding the home from external views.

Blooming Clouds
Gangnam, Seoul’s high-rise jungle, epitomizes the relentless modern metropolis. Amid the noise and fast pace, office workers and residents often crave an escape from the daily grind. This project was envisioned as an ‘urban oasis’—a place where weary souls can pause, breathe, and replenish their energy. In this whimsical retreat, Blooming Cloud invites residents and visitors to find moments of serenity. To create a space open to citizens, the building layout and massing were carefully considered. Gogyeol Mungyeong Guesthouse
Communities worldwide face regional decline due to industrial restructuring and urban migration. Gaeun-eup in Mungyeong City, South Korea, exemplifies this phenomenon. Once a thriving coal mining town with 20,000 residents in the 1960s-80s, it has transformed into a quiet village of 3,000 following mine closures in the 1990s. Local blacksmith shops, once vital community centers crafting daily tools, remained abandoned for over 20 years.

Spatial Solutions in Response to the Bonguisan Mountain Hill Village
The Bonguisan Mountain Hill Village is a small-scale urban fabric that has adapted to the local topography, creating a complex and disorganized landscape with a variety of buildings ranging from reinforced concrete and steel frames, which are prevalent in contemporary architecture, to wooden and masonry structures of the modern era. We wanted the Gyodong Community Center to embody the tangible and intangible values of the village while remaining in harmony with its surroundings. The design avoided the construction of large and enclosed governmental buildings, instead planned along the lines of the smallest units possible to enhance accessibility and use.
