Innovative architects that are dedicated to working with sustainable materials in their buildings are who SSAB strives to work with. One good example is Utopia Arkitekter from Stockholm, Sweden, who wants to build a trekking cabin in the mountains with a strong sustainable angle – the Skýli.The Skýli trekking cabin features sharp pyramidal shapes, a strong, durable and stable structure and many practical details. In Wester Ross, in the northwest highlands of Scotland, Gillian Scampton from Pedder & Scampton Architects and Andrew Barnett from Hopkins Architects set out on an architectural journey. They purchased an old hillside stone cottage that was badly in need of repair. Their goal: Refurbish the cottage and convert it into a comfortable three-bedroom home using environmentally sound technologies and a modern design.  The resulting Fernaig Cottage has provided both with a pleasant living space that blends the past, present and future. Fjärilen – a Monochrome Building in Steel shortlisted for the Swedish Building Award Fjärilen (Swedish for "The Butterfly"), a newly constructed apartment complex in Uppsala (Sweden) designed by Belatchew Arkitekter on behalf of real estate company Wallenstam, has been shortlisted for the Swedish Building Award 2017 (Stålbyggnadspriset 2017). - The challenge for this project was to bridge a gap between two blocks with very different typologies. The back land site of the Tin House is entered from a modest London street through a ‘massive’ Soanian brick double-height arch – a gateway to a remarkable domestic inner world.Creating a secluded place was a priority. The architects’ response was to develop a low, inward-looking, tranquil courtyard that is open to the south yet offers privacy, both visual and acoustic. The design is a composition of different pavilions: six earth-coloured metal-clad pyramidal top-lit forms.
