Stephansplatz

Up to 80,000 people frequent Stephansplatz every day. The pavement is forty years old and will be renewed, the square restructured as a whole. The concept merges seamlessly into the part of the pedestrian precinct  in the Vienna city centre that was already set up in 2008/09.Outdoor public space is the stage for people’s activities, its subtle yet robust design forming the backdrop for all conceivable usages. The deficit in freely available seating will be resolved, the lighting renewed and improved, the non-directional space of the square planned using the Roman paving technique pattern with differently coloured, flagged granite slabs and ornamental stones in abstract cruciform arrangement.
