There are also small amounts of micas that provide tiny shiny points to the cut surface, as well as oxide-hydroxides that create small veins and give rise to several subvarieties. The rock is extracted at a sandstone level that is interspersed with both clayey and conglomeratic.   It is obtained from a quarry within the municipality of Vilviestre del Pinar, in the province of Burgos, where there are an estimated 500,000 m³.
