The Maria Flor Inn is a boutique hotel with 12 rooms, located on the island of Fernando de Noronha, a Natural World Heritage (UNESCO, 2001). The project is the result of the collaboration between Priscilla Muller Studio and Solo Arquitetos, and it was conceived as a sponge of its context, seeking to absorb and integrate architecture and nature in a subtle, respectful and responsible way. The aim was to rehabilitate a house more than one hundred years old located within the protection zone of the Asset of Cultural Interest “Old Hospital of Our Lady of the Assumption of Torralba de Oropesa”. It had to be adapted to current functional, technical and energy demands. It was decided to preserve its most significant and unique features intact—some discovered during the course of the works—while transforming the rest more freely. ZB House resumes the dialogue with the surrounding context, typical of the villages of Lake Como, with a sincere and contemporary architecture. The use of local stone in the parts in direct contact with the view from the outside, as if to seek protection and privacy, while the quicklime plaster for the most intimate areas of the house, creates an articulation in the volume and in the views towards the lake. In the area of ​​Apokoronas and more specifically at the village of Gavalochori, in an area outside the settlement with a slight slope, we designed and built a two-level house with a basement and a swimming pool. The house is 511m2 and the construction time is 2019-2020.  The central idea of ​​the house is based on the philosophy and principles of feng shui, as well as bioclimatic design. The project is born through the client’s desire to build a lodge completely disconnected from the frantic city life, where the guests could be surrounded by nature and enjoy the view of the spectacular.   Mountains, punctuated with rocky churches, of the Gheralta massif, in northern Ethiopia.   The lodge is designed bearing in mind the all-Italian concept of the “albergo diffuso”, which means literally “widespread hotel”.
