A Garden Pavilion
Can concrete appear as thin as paper and defy gravity?A cantilevered, ultra-thin concrete roof challenges gravity—not as an artificially generated image that ignores physical laws, but as a real built structure in an ordinary garden. With this 53-square-meter garden pavilion, FACE and DUCON bring ultra-high-performance concrete from the lab into practice, allowing it to float delicately. An 11 by 5 meter, just 90 millimeter thick roof slab hovers over a long table with an integrated fire pit. Along the line of maximum bending moment, a circular oculus frames the sky—and on clear nights, outlines Orion's Belt. Not a Rural House
Not a Rural House highlights an Italian regulatory paradox. An old crumbling barn to be demolished constrains the shape and height of the new house, forced into the outline of the old ruin. The result is a “fake,” a contemporary home with the appearance of a historic one.

Memory and history are thus reduced to a blind reiteration of traditional façade finishes or ratios, typical of a time gone by and offspring of abandoned building techniques. If regulations impose a fake rural house, a non-rural house indeed, dressed up in the costume of tradition, architecture has the task of declaring its true nature, unmasking the “ make-up ” of forgery.

Joux-Verte footbridge
One of Europe’s first arch dams, built in 1695, crossed the upper reaches of the Eau-Froide river, creating an artificial lake that enabled large quantities of water to be released onto timber piled up downstream, propelling it 900m further down the valley where it was used in salt mining and production. The dam remained operational until 1896, collapsing when the river flooded in 1945. In 1981, the ruins were declared “nationally important” and were restored.
