Sawtooth House

Designed by Francesco Pierazzi Architects, Sawtooth House transforms an ageing rear extension to a Victorian property in Kingston upon Thames, south-west London, into a more energy-efficient and adaptable family home. Rather than pursuing substantial additional floor area, the project adds only 15 square metres to the existing building while undertaking a broader retrofit of the original house. The resulting 180-square-metre residence demonstrates how targeted additions can be combined with improvements to the existing building fabric to reduce operational energy demand and extend the useful life of established housing. Peter Molloy The architecture also draws on Kingston’s industrial history: its distinctive double sawtooth roo... More

Timber and Concrete Silos

Historical BackgroundThe Plange Mill complex, constructed between 1906 and 1934, originally functioned as a wheat mill and stands as a key example of early 20th-century industrial architecture in Düsseldorf. Over the years, the site transitioned from a bustling facility to an abandoned industrial space. In recent decades, it underwent an impressive transformation, evolving from neglect to a vibrant waterfront campus. The once utilitarian silos were repurposed into dynamic, functional spaces, achieving full utilization after years of dormancy. © Hans Blossey The brick-clad Timber Silo was converted into a six-story loft building, creating new workspaces for the Fashion and Media industries, while the curved-shell Concrete Sil... Into The Wild

With a verdant panoramic view of the mountains and deep woods of coconut and palm trees, the site lays plain with no special characters of terrain or landscape. Being the developer's site, the surrounding environs of about 12 acres including our site are plain. This led to create an interesting building which should respect nature. We started our design focusing on 25% on construction and 75% on nature. Speaking of sustainability, growing and planting trees is not only sustainable, how our building responds to the nature is more important. So, we focused on the construction technique which will reduce the carbon emission. This self-sustaining structure folds and flows in a fluidic form and we call this technique as fold architecture. Hydrokinetic Geyser tidal pool resort

Breaking waves turbines resort The tidal pool resort is a power plant that uses renewable energy to produce electricity. Located on the coast of North-West Scotland, a popular area for surfing, water activities, and renewable energy, the resort merges tourism with clean electrical energy generation. The entire resort sits on an artificial floating platform made from clusters of hollow hexagonal ballast-like columns housing vertical dual reversible turbines that can increase the resort's area by floating and locking sections into the frame. The turbines form is inspired by the surrounding volcanic basalt rock coastlines, creating different height levels and enclosed rock pools—they are hollow, allowing the seawater to enter as the tid... A11 Hembrug

‘’Repairs may be visible as scars of time’’ - Peter van Assche On a monumental enclave of former barracks, workspaces and ammunition storage on Het Hembrugterrein in Zaanstad a transformation occurs.  The 100-year-old workspace A11 for weapon repair is being transformed into residential- and working spaces at the initiative of a group of inspiring and creative people. The visible scars of the building that have arisen over the past century are embraced. A renovation based on valuable details such as the stepped brick corners, the brick arch above the windows and brick cill layer beneath. This shows the history of the building with its changes over the years. With the design only what is structurally necessary... More
