Localworks completes Namabaale Education Centre campus in Uganda
Namabaale Education Centre nestles in the lush and undulating landscape of Lwengo District in the Central Region of Uganda. Designed by Localworks, a Uganda-based studio specializing in the design and construction of contextual green architecture, Namabaale Education Centre is a 3-in-1 primary school campus for 1,000 children (the project is funded by the Cotton On Foundation).

Detail: Creating Kampala’s new rammed earth and earth brick arts centre
32° East Arts Centre is Kampala’s first purpose-built community arts space and the new home of 32° East | Ugandan Arts Trust. Located in Kabalagala, a central neighborhood in Kampala, the centre is a creative hub for the city’s artist community: it provides a welcoming, inspiring, and nurturing space — a place where artists can work and socialize. The arts centre was designed by London-based New Makers Bureau in collaboration with Kampala-based Localworks. New Makers Bureau places a great emphasis on architecture that is craft-led and low in embodied carbon; Localworks is a multidisciplinary design and build studio specializing in ecological architecture.

The project site is located in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, in East Africa. There is a need for new hotels in Kampala, with the number of tourists increasing every year. The land is within walking distance of Acacia Mall in Kololo. The plot dimensions are 15m 60m. It is a narrow and long plot.

There is an elevation difference of 3m on the land, which has road connections from both the upper and lower levels. A hotel design was requested on this narrow plot. Parking areas are designed by making vehicle entrances from the lower and upper levels. A rhythm has been achieved with 3 cantilever frames 3 floors high on the narrow facade of the hotel. The project is located in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, located in East Africa. The project land, located in Ntinda, the newly developing region of Kampala, has an area of 777 square meters. When the ramp was built, it was aimed to dissolve the car parking area on the ground floor instead of building a basement, since the loss of space was too much and the land was very limited.The ground floor of the building, which touches the ground only with the entrance lobby and an elevator area that will allow vertical circulation, is used as a car parking lot.
