White facade

The new Five Flowers hotel and spa is inspired by the mixture of the island's tourism origins and its current position as an exclusive enclave, the first five-star hotel in Formentera. Living up to its name, the flowers already greet from the white façade of the hotel, located in the coastal town of Es Pujols. Tower-house I interprets the form of dwelling, widely found throughout the outer Mani, southern Greece. This form, a combination of defense tower and farmhouse, was articulated by a monolithic, stone structure with few openings, so as to protect dwellers from extensive heat as well as piracy. The surrounding landscape is characterized by dry stone retaining walls transforming a steep topography into a series of arable plateaus.The new Tower-house contemplates exactly this; a volume among existing preserved retaining walls and a few new concrete ones. As the requirement of the owner, an aged apartment on Sukhumvit 23 road, in the heart of Bangkok, Thailand, has been renovated into a seven-storey hotel named ‘TwoThree Hotel’. The small dimensions of the apartment rooms and their windows were found to be the major issue in the existing building since this resulted in the uncomfortable rooms with insufficient daylight.To improve the existing deficient spaces, the architect decided to expand the room sizes and openings simultaneously to generate larger, brighter and more functional hotel rooms. The plot is located in the village of Aguada de Cima (Águeda, Portugal) and is surrounded by agricultural and forestry lands. The terrain converges topographically to its central point, which rises slightly in relation to its limits and that’s where the building implants itself. Its composition is made of three gable roof volumes that intersect themselves at the same point and establish direct relations of connection and functionality.The building has two floors, one of them underground.
