See Through House

The Owners of this narrow, dark Foggy Bottom rowhouse desired a space of openness and light. To achieve this, a simple floor plan was established, with no dividing walls and all programmatic elements running along the party walls. A transparent volume of light which runs from basement to roof was created by aligning glass floors on every level. The result is a tapestry of solid and voids which define fully functional floor plates, and allow light and views to run vertically and unobstructed through the whole house.Large sliding doors and frosted glass panels on upper level floors bring in additional light, and complement the steel stairs, and bamboo floors. The newly erected Joseph Pschorr Haus located in the centre of Munich between Neuhauser Straße, Eisemannstraße and Altheimer Eck was designed by architect Kuehn Malvezzi of Berlin. The building is 50 metres high, has 5 floors and an underground garage with over 200 parking spaces. On the site of the present building there was formerly a large beer-house and brewery named “Pschorr”, from which the present building gets its name thus combining tradition and modernity. The clients opted for a high-quality finish of the building. Shiny façades are made of glass and metal. 120 pivot and top hung and pivot FAKRO windows featuring double-chamber glazing units are installed in the building. Windows are combined with the roof surface by means... More

Horsefield House

Whilst the front of Horsefield House incorporates large and spacious vertical sash windows, typically found in many Victorian properties, the rear space failed to coincide with this light and airy atmosphere. Therefore it was important for the series of back rooms with limited use, to be transformed into a sequence of spaces that reflected this popular Victorian style, both in terms of lighting as well as scale and function. Bespoke Flushglaze rooflight above the bar To achieve this look, large sections of bespoke glazing were incorporated into the design plans. This glazed unit, with its minimalist design and compact, frameless finish, helped the architect to achieve the desired effect within the existing built conditions. •breatht... More

Private property in Southgate, North London

The renovation of a North London Property involved repurposing the existing floor plans in order to incorporate a large open kitchen and dining space. This included the installation of two Flushglaze fixed rooflights. Management of natural and artificial light With such a large space, the challenge here was to make the extension feel as homely as possible; the careful management of light throughout the project helped to achieve a balance of comfort and style. The large sliding glass doors and glazing above the window seat brings in a continuous stream of natural light, whilst ambient lighting combined with LED lights helps to both warm and dramatize different areas of the extension. Illuminate Glazing Vision’s fixed Flushglaz... More

Project • By FAKROHousing

This charming house in Weert is very distinctive due to the special series of FAKRO windows installed. The client requested all roof windows frames to be black from both inner and outer aspects. To meet the expectations of the client, FAKRO created ten unique high pivot windows all finished in black RAL 9005. Thanks to such solution, windows perfectly harmonized with the rest of the house. It was necessary to manufacture non-standard flashings because of the application of the thatched roofing. Special ETV-B flashings for the thatch were created in order to install roof windows in this traditional roof covering. Furthermore, P2 anti–burglary glazing units were specified to increase safety and security. More

Ockedon Academy

Two new timber buildings at Ockendon Academy have seen use of 53 FTP-V Z-Wave windows along with ARF Z-Wave roller shutters. 16 were installed in the English block while 37 were used on the larger ‘Ockendon Studio School’, a self-contained facility for year 12 and 13 students. Cabinco which specializes in eco building and the construction of sustainable school buildings in particular was the main contractor for both projects. Designs focused heavily on the provision of large, open plan teaching areas. As a result, it was particularly important to maximize availability of natural light and with both buildings having low pitch roofs the roof windows play a crucial role. Specific technical issues were addressed including a requirement for w... More

Residential building in Barcelona

In a small passage, in the city centre. The neighbours protected themselves from the exterior with thick walls and balconies. We have to work with lightweight elements, so we designed the façade as a succession of layers: one interior, of glass and stainless steel, and another exterior, close to it, of wood that opens and closes at will. It protects us from noise and inquisitive eyes, acts as a filter between inside and outside, and gives the building an urban image. To accommodate domestic life in the dense central city, architecture has to veil and control pure transparency. More
