North Chevy Chase Residence
This classically modern residence is located in The Village of North Chevy Chase, Maryland. The client’s goal was to have a forever home that could adapt to their needs as they age, all while staying within a relatively tight budget. The site slopes from north to south, which allowed for the creation of two "front" doors on this corner lot. One door faces Kenilworth Drive, situated close to grade and easily adaptable for a ramp or low threshold entry. This facade also complements the lower scale context of the neighborhood with its modest two-story design.

Forest House
‘Make it Mid-Century’ was the dictum for this home set among a forested parcel near The Woodlands. Designed with ‘zero thresholds’, the client’s ‘forever home’ allows them to age in place while hosting large family gatherings throughout the year. The home’s massing revolves around a central courtyard and pool, allowing the guest wing to be shut down while not in use, and vastly lowering the energy usage. Sustainable features of the home include rain water collection, solar harvesting, and drought tolerant landscaping, all targeting net zero energy usage.

The final design includes: Design for aging in place, with zero thresholds from the entry bridge to the curdles showers inside. A small garage with an electric car charging station. An ample open living and dining great room with soaring clerestory windows and f... More
