Ricardo Bak Gordon was born in Lisbon in 1967 and studied at the Faculty of Architecture of Porto University, the Faculty of Architecture of Lisbon’s Universidade Técnica and at the Milan Polytechnic Institute.
He graduated in 1990. During that year he created Vilela & Gordon atelier, together with Carlos Vilela Lúcio. In 2000 he created the atelier Bak Gordon Arquitectos, where he currently works.
Among the projects and competitions he has participated in are; the first prize of the International Competition for the Residence of the Portuguese Embassy in Brasilia, the first prize of the International Competition for the Preservation of the Historic Centre of Sintra, the first prize for the Human Sciences and Arts Complex for Polo in Aviz, Évora, the first prize of the competition by invitation for the Municipal Archives Building in Palmela, the first prize of the competition by invitation for the Urban Park in Albarquel (coordinated by the Landscape Architecture office FCAP), the first prize of the competition by invitation for the swimming pool complex in Moita, and more recently, the first prize of the competition by invitation for the exhibiting project for the Lisbon Architectural Triennial, the Portuguese pavilion in the Biennale of São Paulo in Brazil or in the EXPO ZARAGOZA2008, in Spain.
His work as an architect has been presented in several exhibitions and conferences in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Mexico and Brazil and published in many books and magazines on architecture worldwide.
He taught in several universities in Portugal and participated in several international seminars of architecture. He teaches the subject of Project in Faculdade de Arquitectura do Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon.
