Bonnema Architects is a dynamic architectural firm , founded in the past , equipped for the future .   Abe Bonnema Namesake of the office Abe Bonnema ( Stiens , September 6, 1926 - Groningen , August 9, 2001 ) founded the agency in 1957 in Leeuwarden . Unhindered by any theoretical doctrine therefore has Abe Bonnema a functionalist design method combined with craftsmanship . His technical and pragmatic method was sober , and business as successful as the buildings that have been prevented . In his work he deliberately put emphasis on building as a process . He was not driven by a conscious formal desire , but buildings were developed by endlessly to explore in the program , the possibilities (construction) engineering, materials and financial margins . He was convinced that functionalism would be immortal. His legacy confirms this in a convincing way .   After his death, Abe Bonnema a legacy bequeathed to the city of Leeuwarden for a new home for the Fries Museum .
