Cedric Canaud

After studying fine art in Rennes and in Palermo at the Accademia di Belli Arti, Cedric Canaud is interested in space, sculpture and video performances. Meeting the interior designer Sylvie Blazy engaged him in multiple collaborations and he then decided to engage himself in product design - to make, build and transform. Intrigued and excited, Cedric wants to experiment more broadly with the relationship between people, objects and the space they occupy. According to him, the habitat is an area that needs to compromise with its different types of occupants, hence the need to question, in each project, our practice of contemporary living and our gestures towards the object. Each of his projects are an invitation to take part in a design event, to experience it as an action that gives life to links between the space, surrounding objects and the body of the user themselves. In a constant questioning on the optimization of production and by economy, the raw and natural materials such as wood, cork, textiles and plants that require minimal modification, take a special and important place in the development and the implementation of all of his projects. These become features of his approach to design: minimalism, simplicity and neutrality. Demanding and optimistic Cédric thinks that ‘You can always do or be better’, which lead him to use some formal codes suggesting structural practices, but also, and more than anything else, have fun with shapes, uses and concepts. Rigorous in his research on the perfect balance between ornamental and functional geometry, Cedric observes, analyses and produces a manipulation, gestures and an extension by the individuals of his designs. Exhibited in France, Quebec, Finland and in Venezuela, Cedric works in parallel of his collections with MCMB for some stylism photo, reimplantation, creating visual or interior decoration for Mobalpa, Perene, Delpha, Thg or le Ritz Health Club.
