EcoSink's Food Waste Disposal units have been around for many years. In fact, the first machines were installed in the UK in the 1970s. Today, around 60-70% of homes in the US have waste disposal units, but still only around 5% in the UK, but that is all about to change. When food waste goes into landfill, it generates harmful methane, which is more damaging to the environment than CO2. The UK Government is banning food waste from landfill by 2014, and local councils are expecting people to do home composting (that can attract rats) or use kitchen caddies (also known as slop buckets). However, it's more environmentally friendly to process food waste through a waste disposal unit down the drain, where it goes to the sewage plant. For every 1kw used by your EcoSink, the material it processes could be used to generate up to 10Kw of electricity. There is a biomass plant in the UK, at Didcot in Oxfordshire, where they convert all solid sewage into electricity within two weeks. We're campaigning for more biomass capability in the UK by lobbying government, local authorities, and building relationships with green and environmental bodies. EcoSink waste disposal units have been designed and manufactured using up-to-date technology. They have a 'bladeless' patented turntable, which coimbined with a powerfull motor, running c5,500rpm, grinds the food waste efficiently and effectively, sending the waste down the waste water system. They are manufactured by a major electric motor manufacturer, and now available in UK/Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, China, and Germany.
