Hodgetts + Fung

Our approach is multifaceted because we adapt our design strategies to each project, while striving to create the internal harmonies that add up to a coherent sense of place. Our collaborations with museums and curators have given us an intimate insight into the nature of exhibition space, not as an architectural tour-de-force, but as an influential channel of communication. SYNTHESIZED Our renovations of historic landmarks have stimulated an ongoing discourse with overlooked histories and unseen landscapes. Our role as educators and our projects at school sites have collectively enriched our understanding of spatial interactions and the conduits into effective teaching and dynamic learning. A desire to expand the role of technology lies at the core of our design philosophy. Indeed, many of our projects owe a debt to our ongoing familiarity with cutting-edge materials and methods. EXPERIENCE We have built our design philosophy on the holistic view that every aspect of our surroundings, from tableware to thoroughfares, is a participant in the human experience, and that the architect has a right and an obligation to employ this arsenal of experience in the creation of a compelling environment. Governed by the eye of the viewer and the dynamics of motion, our aim is to design spaces that impel physical interaction, injecting users into environments that re-animate the senses. Hodgetts + Fung is a studio made up of architects and designers with special expertise in the design of unique places for learning, cultural events, and civic functions. With complementary backgrounds in urban design, architecture, and industrial design, partners Craig Hodgetts and Hsinming Fung have a singular ability to integrate divergent needs in order to create memorable designs for significant projects. Their approach to this work is multifaceted - embracing visitor experience, technology, and iconic presence in a disciplined process resulting in a bold, uncompromising architecture. This method has been instrumental in achieving a fusion of architecture and contemporary culture which advances the objectives of our clients as well as their communities.
