House Fiction Architects was founded in 2017 and is currently based in Beijing and Venice. While this small-sized architecture studio is paying attention to the establishment and output of their concepts, the team members are willing to practice in the construction experiment and explore the possibility of material and space in various combinations. They carefully observe the world and articulate their findings through projects such as architecture, space, installations, products, video, etc. They devote their modest efforts to contribute some happiness to the evolution of world civilization.
House Fiction tries to bring a positive impact to emotion and the environment through each project. They were known for their design of two dessert restaurants, Doko Beijing and Doko Chengdu in 2017 and 2018. Since its establishment, the studio has spontaneously put forward conceptual proposals for urban issues every year, such as the Lifting Plan: The Cat's Commune. During the epidemic period, they developed cultural and creative products, and brought them to the outdoor fair. They created a popular architectural content Story about 600-year Forbidden City along with IP Design Stone Lions. Hostel LARGO Tsingtao is their renovation design of an old coastal villa, which has aroused echoes in public. The practice loves to discuss and solve difficult problems with experts in various subdivisions of architectural research, even for a low-cost temporary installation, such as The Unbalanced Needle in Shanghai Fashion week, 2021.
In 2018, House Fiction was commissioned by The Palace Museum to carry out the renovation and design of the Xihuamen Gate Tower, Luanyiwei East Library, and other heritage buildings. Since then, House Fiction has been particularly fascinated by the adaptive reuse of historical buildings. They discover and explore the buildings during the site investigation and follow-up construction progress, and set the history for the future of the site/building in the design. Currently, they are working on a hotel design in a particularly complex alley-connected place.
With a small focus group of imaginative people, we constantly test our conceptions of design in order to present the finest option. Within this small group, we avoid being bound by inherent experience and memory and believe in using logic and a factual basis for guidance. Modesty, prudence, and multiple inspections and proofreading are the basic tenets of the quality control of each link. Their approach to providing the best service for their clients is to do a narrative design that demonstrates integrity. This young team considers multiple aspects for the project partners as maturely as possible.
