Juan Pablo Aschner Rosselli
Colombian/Italian architect who holds a postgraduate master’s degree with honors in architecture and a Ph.D. in art and architecture. He codirected the award-winning film Euritmia and has authored or coauthored six books and numerous published articles and book chapters. Presently he is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Universidad de los Andes and the director of Dearq Journal of Architecture.
His architectural research incorporates methodological and thematic resources used in certain areas of the social sciences, the humanities, the arts and especially music, literature and film. Among the research subjects developed in recent years are: the monographic study of the work of Latin American modern and contemporary architects; the study of form, experience and composition in music, art, cinema and architecture in interaction; the role of architecture reconciliation and peace processes; Narco-architecture in Colombia and Mexico; and symbolic relations between architecture, politics and power.
Experienced in architectural design and participatory social design, working on projects of different scales and varying uses such as, for example, the project won by competition to design the Museum for San Agustin’s Archaeological Park, a UNESCO world heritage site. He has also served as head consultant in the formulation of an innovative upcoming new Faculty in Art, Architecture and Design in Colombia.
Recipient of the 1st prize in the XXVI Colombian Architecture Biennale 2018, publications category, and of an Honorary International Mention at the XXI Panamerican Architecture Biennale 2018, for Dearq; has also obtained research grants from the Open Society Foundation, CESED (Study Center on Security and Drugs) and IDARTES (Bogota’s Cultural Institute), amongst others. His film Euritmia has obtained two first prices and one second prize in international film and architecture festivals in Turkey, France and Bosnia I Herzegovina. Juan Pablo has received a full scholarship for academic excellency (Universidad Nacional) and was preselected in the group of the best 13 Colombian architects under 40 for the II Latin-American Architecture Biennale of 2011 in Pamplona, Spain. The co-authored published work in which he has participated has received a History, theory and criticism Award at the XXII Colombian Architecture Biennial, 2010; has been selected at the Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture of 2012; and has obtained three honorable mention awards in the Colombian Architecture Biennials of 2008, 2012 and 2014.
