Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort is the world’s leading premium arctic resort located 250 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland. Since 1973, our family-run hotel has been offering magical experiences surrounded by the authentic arctic wilderness, every season of the year. We are world-famous for our Glass Igloos, Northern Lights, Midnight Sun and arctic art, just to name a few.
We’re located next to Finland's largest national park Urho Kekkonen National Park and surrounded by some of the cleanest nature to be found anywhere in the world. The water is so pure that you can drink straight from the stream and the air is so fresh that you can feel it deep down in your lungs. The resort itself is a piece of art as nearly everything is crafted on the spot by local craftsmen and artists.
Each season the arctic nature is putting on its finest show. We’re best known for our Northern Lights. Kakslauttanen is one of the best places in the world to see their magical glow. This is not only because the season is long – lasting from August to April – but also because we have the best facilities to view them: our Glass Igloos and Kelo-Glass Igloos.
There are also many other miracles of the arctic nature to marvel. In the heart of winter, trees sag under the weight of the snow. The blue light of the Polar Night makes it all seem like a fairy tale. Summer, on the other hand, brings about an almost surreal-feeling, when the Midnight Sun embraces the sky 24 hours a day. In the autumn, everything changes when the "Ruska" period sets in and the trees and land are covered in an array of changing colors. Forests are filled with mushrooms and berries that anyone is free to pick.
There are dozens of activities available for the guests. In the winter you can experience the arctic wilderness on a reindeer, husky, horse and snowmobile safaris, just to name a few. The area is also known for its world-class cross-country skiing - there are altogether 200 kilometers of tracks with stunning sceneries in the Urho Kekkonen National Park next door. During the summer and autumn the area offers optimal opportunities for e.g. hiking, biking, gold panning, horseback riding and canoeing. Every season, guests can learn about the fascinating culture of the Sámi, the only indigenous people in the European Union area. And of course, Santa Claus & Mrs. Santa welcome visitors to their home throughout the year.
