Molonglo Group finds new ways to create meaningful landscapes. Our work promotes pluralism and a capacity to develop new and renewed mythologies about ourselves.
We are a property developer and creative production house. We work alongside artists, designer-makers and architects to actively conceive, design, deliver and curate our projects. Since 1964 these adventures have included supermarkets, organic foods, technology businesses, property development, architecture and urban design, hotels, hospitality, furniture and product design, publishing, exhibitions, curation and events. We see the boundaries of what we do, who we are and how we work with our people, collaborators and partners as fuzzy; more like an endless horizon than a prescriptive choice between this or that.
Molonglo Group’s process is often messy, collaborative and cross-disciplinary, which allows for enormous fluidity, flexibility and disjunction in creative making. Ideologically, this process reflects our belief that to foster healthy, cohesive and tolerant societies, we need to accept messy arrangements – whether they be political, social or aesthetic.
Despite having interests elsewhere, Canberra is our home. On the edge of its city centre we continue to work on the progressive reestablishment of a precinct, together with its cultural programs and businesses, named NewActon. Hotel Hotel, a new site in Melbourne’s Collingwood, multiple publishing projects and the future of Canberra’s East Lake Foreshore are also the focus of our days.
