MR. STIR architect + planner is an architecture and urban design practice based in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. We design spaces, buildings and neighbourhoods where people can feel at home. To us, architecture is not only about what we build, but above all about what a place can enable: encounter, connection, initiative and a sense of ownership.
The practice was founded in 2020 by architect Maarten Huls and urban designer Martijn van Bussel, following four years of close collaboration. The combination of architecture and urban design continues to shape the way we work. We deliberately move between different scales, from small spatial interventions and individual buildings to neighbourhoods and larger urban developments. This allows us to approach every project as part of a broader spatial and social context.
We design with passion for our profession, courage, collaboration and an eye on the future. Rather than accepting existing conditions as fixed, we investigate, question and explore each brief from different perspectives to uncover the full potential of a place. Sometimes, the strength of a design lies precisely in challenging the original question.
People are at the heart of our work. We value close collaboration with clients, residents, users and other disciplines — not only to create support and engagement, but because we believe collaboration leads to better and more meaningful architecture.
Our projects vary in scale and typology, but share the same ambition: to create places with a distinct identity, rooted in their context and designed to remain meaningful over time. With careful attention to architectural quality, materials, landscape and everyday use, we design not only for today, but also for what a place can become in the future.
Distinctive and bold, for people and places.
