Royal Road wins Best Design Award at the 2014 National Housing Awards
"A very carefully considered scheme; well executed with robust and attractive detailing. The tight inner city site and equally tight budget of only £1,320/sqm has produced a housing scheme of real quality."
Royal Road wins Completed Scheme Award at the 2014 Housing Design Awards
"[...] the site constraints inspired the architects to respond with a highly modulated façade. Their concept is that the main mass of the blocks represent a chest of drawers with the drawer pulled out of the solid mass containing the core to become apartments that have 3 exterior walls and thereby triple aspect. The judges were very impressed by the brickwork detailing of the scheme which has the quality you associate with ecclesiastical buildings or expensive corporate HQs and is no doubt a welcome change for those residents remembering the relentless concrete panels of the Heygate."

"The overall feeling and quality of the project is humane and approachable. While the design is modern, the clever use of brick detailing gives warmth and colour which fits in well with its surroundings. The variation in the brick and the curtain type detailing were complemented by the judges. The detail, which has been used well throughout, gives a particular quality to the elevations. This is an ambitious housing project with a carefully selected palette of materials and complex brief."
